Counseling Announcements What you need to do if you are a 12th grader taking off-campus courses for graduation requirements.You must submit proof of completion of any off campus courses by May 21st at 3pm. If you do not submit proof of completion of any off-campus course by May 21st then you will not be cleared to check out on May 22nd (Senior Check-Out Day). The deadline to submit proof and receive clearance to check out, receive graduation tickets and participate in the graduation ceremony is May 27th at 3pm. Ways to submit proof of completion of off-campus courses are outlined below:
-Palomar College Courses: You mus submit an unofficial transcript with your grade(available online) to your counselor. You must rquest that an official transcript be sent to Mrs. Dalley, Registrar in order to get your diploma. -BYU online classes: BYU can fax course results to counseling office at (760) 739-7315. -Adult Education: The Adult Ed. Office must submit the course completion form to Ms. Dalley. -Other off-campus classes: Please see your counselor as soon as possible to determine the best way to submit grade (s). Unofficial off-campus transcripts/records will allow you to be cleared to check out and participate in the graduation ceremony. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS must be received by Mrs. Dalley, the Registrar, in order to receive your diploma. Please see your counselor if you have any questions. Palomar College Early Acceptance ProgramPalomar College Early Acceptance Assessment Session will be at SPHS on:
Thursday, March 12th and Friday March 13th. All students must come into the counseling office starting February 17th in order to sign up for the exam. Counseling 110 for 5 creditsStudents! Palomar college offers a class at SPHS after school once a week called College Success Skills. If you are in need of credits, please come talk to your counselor As soon as possible since space is very limited 10th Grade College Exploration TripThe two-day college exploration trip was a success!! We visited USC, UCLA, CSU Long Beach and UCI. Thanks to Kafi Swaniker, Michelle Wiese, Ramon Jaime and Jessica Evans for being wonderful chaperones to the 36 students who attended the trip.
Free or Reduced ApplicationFree/Reduced Meal Applications are available in the Counseling Center. Being eligible for free or reduced meals allows you to receive fee waivers for SAT, ACT and AP exams for the year.
Cal Poly San Luis ObispoDid you know that the ACT is the preferred test for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. This is something to keep in mind if you are applying to this University. You can also go to www.ess.calpoly.edu/admiss/act.html to learn more information about the ACT as the preferred test.
Athletic PE Credit for Spring Sport10-12th graders who are interested in receiving Athletic PE credit for a spring sport may come into the counseling office and see Mrs. Dalley. The deadline is Friday, February 2oth before 3:30pm NO EXCEPTIONS.
Taking Off Campus Courses
School safety and WeTipSchool safety is a priority and we want your student to learn in a relaxed, safe environment. Our school district participates in the WeTip program. WeTip is a way to report safety concerns anonymously. Please talk to your student about using this valuable tool. Students may report bullying, vandalism, drug sales and trafficking, and anything that puts the well-being of our students at danger.
Please visit www.wetip.com for more information. There are rewards if the tip leads to an arrest or conviction of up to $1,000. You may also call 1-800-78-CRIME to make a report. SAT Prep and other courses at Palomar CollegePalomar college offers many courses for teens, in particular SAT Preparation. Another popular course is Driver's education. The Escondido Public Library has a new after school service - Live Homework Help. Live homework help is an online tutoring service featuring one-to-one homework help sessions. Help is available in math, science, social studies and English. The service is free for all students and can be accessed from the library or from home.
